20131207 - Minutes Nuneaton

 

MINUTES OF QUARTERLY MEETING HELD ON SATURDAY 7th DECEMBER 2013                       

AT THE CHESTNUTS CLUB, NUNEATON.

 

1. WELCOME BY CHAIRMAN: The Chairman welcomed members to the meeting. He reminded people to check the Warwickshire website for information on health checks, forthcoming events, employment opportunities and links to other NARPO branches.

 

2. MEMBERS ATTENDING: There were 65 members present.

 

3. APOLOGIES: Were received from 22 members.

 

4. NEW MEMBERS: Keith Harrison, Christopher Smith.

 

5. DEATHS: Robert Smith, Norman Gill, Tommy Douglas.

 

6. MINUTES OF QUARTERLY MEETING 7th SEPTEMBER 2013: The minutes of this meeting had been circulated and it was proposed by Mick Young that they be accepted as a true copy of the meeting and seconded by Eric Crumpler and carried by the meeting.

 

7. MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES: There was one matter arising reference liaison with the Police Commissioner. This had been completed but he could not attend our lunch in 2013 as he had other commitments but he was willing to attend a meeting in the future.

 

8. MINUTES OF COMMITTEE MEETING 6th November 2013: These were summarised by the secretary. At the meeting it was decided to have another afternoon tea on Friday 30th May 2014 and the annual lunch on Sunday 12th October 2014. Both these would be held at the Woodside Hotel, Kenilworth. The widows Christmas gifts for the over seventies was agreed at a cost of £20 each. It was agreed that new members will pay membership from the following financial year from joining. This would fall into line with other branches and give new members up to one year’s free membership depending when they join. Lastly if any members were interested on a conducted tour of the Justice Centre at Leamington with Mr Little to contact the secretary. The committee went last year and found the two hour tour very interesting.

 

9. ANNUAL CONFERENCE YORK 2013: The secretary outlined the main points at the conference which covered pensions and introduction of the role of the Police Commissioner. He reminded members to support the petition on the NARPO website to keep pensioners bus passes and heating allowances.

 

10. BRANCH CIRCULARS:  
1. Annual Conference Brighton 4th – 6th September 2014.
2. Data Protection renewal 
3. Precept 2nd instalment 2013
4. Increase in Subscription in line with C.P.I. to £19.56 and pension increase at 2.7% from April 2014.

11.CORRESPONDENCE: We had two letters of thanks from Kathy Cain and Maureen Postins with reference to the donations on the deaths of their husbands and thanks for the attendance at the funerals of former colleagues. Mrs Postins also made special thanks to Simon Yarwood for the support he gave the family. The secretary gave special thanks to all the welfare representatives who gave help and support behind the scenes for the members.

 

12. ANY OTHER BUSINESS: No other business

 

13. DATE OF NEXT MEETING A.G.M.: Noon for 12.30 start on Saturday 8th March at Leamington Cricket Club, followed by a buffet lunch.

 

There being no further business to discuss the Chairman closed the meeting at 12.55 p.m. and the members then enjoyed the buffet lunch. A raffle was held which raised £164.90p and a separate raffle took place for the Philippines disaster which made over £100. At the end the chairman thanked Kim for the buffet and Kim and Carol who sold the raffle tickets.
